Cardinal Sin?

Roman Catholic Cardinals are ordinarily not known as outspoken corporate critics. Paul Cardinal Zoungrana, Archbishop of Ougadougou, Upper Volta, recently broke with that tradition, however, at a Vatican news conference.

Claiming that multinational corporations have brought "famine and destitution" to Africa and the rest of the Third World, Cardinal Zoungrana urged journalists to "unveil these injustices to the world."

The Archbishop, one of nine Roman Catholic Cardinals from black Africa, made his remarks while attending the Fifth World Synod of Bishops.
