Brazil: Ludwig's Project Flops

In an unusually long and thorough article last month, Fortune magazine somewhat snidely recounted the plight of D.K. Ludwig's Connecticut-sized jungle reforestation experiment, the Jan project in Brazil, which is now up for sale.

"If Ludwig has to write off his billion-dollar investment, I one of the world's largest fortunes will have shrunk to a few hundreds of millions." Fortune crisply remarked.

Responded William Fisher, a spokesman for Ludwig's shipping firm National Bulk Carriers, "1 want to make no comment whatsoever."
